John Roth will speak on "'Bearing Witness' as Peacemaking: A New Martyrs Mirror for the Twenty-First Century?" This lecture will introduce and test a larger project aimed at gathering stories of Christian faithfulness in the face of adversity and suffering. Focused primarily on groups in the global Anabaptist-Mennonite tradition, the lecture will explore contemporary experiences of the "suffering church," reflect on the relevance of that suffering for Mennonite churches in North America, and outline a larger initiative for gathering stories of faithfulness that could result in a new volume of the Martyrs Mirror (the contents of which have not changed since 1685).
