25: Mary Amador and Neil Boston Gallery Exhibition

Both veteran art teachers at Concord Junior High School, Mary Amador and Neil Boston will display recent work at the Hershberger Gallery for the summer show.

Mary specializes in mixed media, favoring colored pencil and acrylic paint on wooden panels and often incorporating found objects. She draws her inspiration from the past and her children serve as references to her vibrant but chaotic childhood. Her distinctive personal style embeds the influence of the outdoors, her Spanish culture and religious references, both subtle and obvious.

Neil specializes in mixed media on paper and canvas, and tells us the majority of work in this show is based on his experiences during mission trips of the paradox...poverty surrounded by beauty. Two images are repeated throughout the works; Robert Johnson (blues guitar master) and a black bull that was grazing in the mountain valley behind Palo Blanco School (Jarabacoa, Dominican Republic). He says, "Somehow, I find both to be equal in their visual importance."

The Hershberger Art Gallery, located in Sauder Music Center, is open weekdays from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.. The gallery is closed weekends during June, July and August.
