Visiting Artist: Kwiran Lee Piano

Korean pianist and visiting artist Kwiran Lee will present a recital of solo piano music in Rieth Recital Hall on Tuesday, January 29 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $7 adults, $5 seniors/students, available at the door one hour before the concert. GC faculty/staff/students are free with ID.

Born in Seoul, Korea, pianist Kwiran Lee has toured as a soloist and chamber musician. She studied piano at the Ewha Womans University under Young-Lim Ham and proceeded to win numerous prizes and awards. In 1995 she moved to the United States to study at the Eastman School of Music. She completed her Doctor of Musical Arts under Rebecca Penneys. While still a student, Kwiran Lee performed for the Flaine Musique in France, the Sejong Arts Center in Korea, the Classic Live Conerts Series on WBFO in Buffalo, New York.

In 2002 she moved to New Zealand and worked as soloist and accompanist. She has performed at the Great Hall of the Arts Centre in Christchurch, Music Centre, Rangiora Music Hall, Akaroa Music Festival Hall and many other places. As a chamber musician she has performed with Jan Tawroszewicz, Edith Salzmann, Mario de Secondi and Anatoly Zelinsky.

In 2006 Kwiran returned to her native country Korea and has given recitals of important Korean music halls such as Seoul Arts Center, Kumho Arts Center, Youngsan Art Hall and Sungnam Art Center. She performed premieres of number of important contemporary Korean works for piano by Kyung-Ja Kim and Okmi Han. Kwiran has been teaching at the Ewha Womans University since 2006.
