Using Machine Learning Techniques to Enable Discoveries in Physics, Christina Peters, Science Speakers
It's a great time to be an astronomer! For example, the Vera C. Rubin Observatory, now under construction in Chile and expected to be completed in 2024, will repeatedly photograph the entire night sky in the Southern hemisphere every few nights. It will use the largest digital camera ever built (the size of a small car).
Processing such 'astronomical' amounts of image data will require automation, which is expected to be the biggest technical challenge of the project.
This lecture is free and open to the public.
