Visiting Artist Recital: Wendela Van Swol, solo flute

Visiting artist Wendela Van Swol will perform a solo flute recital in Rieth Recital Hall. Ms. Van Swol will perform solo flute works by J.S. Bach, laude Debussy, Mihovil Logar, Robert Muczinsky, Alvaro Maroto, and Katherine Hoover.

Wéndela van Swol was born in The Hague (Netherlands), where she received both her bachelors and masters degrees at the Royal Conservatory of Music with renowned flutists Frans Vester and Paul Verheij (soloist with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra). She did summer courses and ?masterclasses? with Peter-Lukas Graf, Olivier Messiaen, Trevor Wye, Geoffrey Gilbert, Frans Brüggen, Barthold Kuyken, Sophie Cherrier, André Jaunet and Stephen Preston.

Van Swol has freelanced with the majority of Dutch orchestras, participated in meetings of young European musicians in Provence (France) and was a member of the Dutch Student Chamber Orchestra (Nesko) . She has been very active in chamber ensembles (duos, trios and quartets) performing in the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, England, Spain, USA and Italy. She has recorded for the Dutch radio and television and has performed at the Royal Palace in The Hague with her trio at a dinner party for the United States president at the invitation of Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands.

Van Swol has recorded for National Classic Radio, with the Zahira Trio (flute, viola and harp), the Zahira Ensemble (flute, violin, viola and cello) and with pianist Santiago Baez. She was invited to give a recital with pianist Emilio J. García during the First Flute Convention in Madrid in April 2010.
