Workshop with M.J. Beinvenu on Deaf Culture

Goshen College's four-year ASL/Interpreter Training Program invites you to this workshop, #8 in the Feed Your Eyes, Mind & Spirit series. M.J. Beinvenu will present a workshop on "Deaf Culture Revisited: A Community View of Interpreters and the Deaf Community" from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. on April 16.

Bienvenu was born and raised in Baton Rouge, La., and attended the Louisiana School for the Deaf, graduating in 1969. She comes from an all-deaf family and is a native user of ASL. She has authored several articles and presented numerous workshops nationally as well as internationally. Currently Beinvenu is an assistant professor at Gallaudet University in Washington, D.C., and chairperson of the Department of ASL and Deaf Studies there.

Pre-registration costs $35, at the door costs $45. Please pre-register by calling (574) 535-7566 (D/deaf callers please use relay). This workshop is wheelchair accessible and interpreters are provided.

This workshop is being offered for .7 CEUs in the Content area of American Sign Language, Advanced Instructional Level for RID. For Indiana EIC holders this workshop meets the category 1 requirements. DHHS is the CMP sponsor.
