Yoder Public Affairs Lecture with Kenneth Woodward, Religion Editor for Newsweek

Kenneth Woodward, contributing editor for Newsweek, will speak on Pilgrimage in an Age of World Religions on Tuesday, Oct. 19, at 8 p.m. in Sauder Concert Hall.

In his 38 years with Newsweek, Woodward has served as religion editor, ideas editor, senior writer and contributing editor. He has reported from five continents and written more than 750 articles for publications such as The New York Times, The Washington Post and The Wall Street Journal.

Woodwards numerous honors include 11 awards for the Best Magazine Article on Religion, given by the Religious Public Relations Society of America, and a 2003 Second Place for Commentary award from the American Academy of Religion.

Born in Detroit, Mich., Woodward earned an English degree with special honors from the University of Notre Dame. He continued his education at the University of Michigan Law School, the University of Iowa and the University of Strasbourg in France.

Woodward has authored several books on religion. Making Saints, published in 1993, has been used as a university textbook. His most recent effort is The Book of Miracles: The Meaning of Miracle Stories in Christianity, Judaism, Buddhism, Hinduism and Islam.

Woodward will discuss his personal experiences as a religion journalist during a convocation on Wednesday, Oct. 20, at 10 a.m. in the Church-Chapel in a talk titled Making Sense of American Religion.

Both events are free and the public is warmly invited to attend.
