Lifelong Learning Institute - "A Japanese Voice From Buddhism, Bible and Bomb"

Goshen College and Greencroft Retirement Communities have created a new institute to offer mini-courses for senior adults in Elkhart County.

The second offering in Spring 2005 will be led by Wilbur Birky, Ph.D., Professor Emeritus, Goshen College; and Former Director of Study-Service Terms, Goshen College.

He will lead a study of the multiple lives and perspectives of Yorifumi Yaguchi. Yaguchi assisted his grandfather in the Buddhist temple; his father was a Shinto nationalist and his mother attended Christian worship. His career in Japan blends multiple roles as pastor, poet, professor and editor.

The four session course runs May 16, 18, 23 and 25; the fee is $40.

Birky will also lead a mini SST to Hokkaido, Japan for two weeks in early October.
