Stuart McLean-Greencroft Gala

Canadians laugh, too! Greencroft Gala 2006

Canadian humorist Stuart McLean presents tales about a fictional family where nothing ever quite goes according to plan. His first visit in the Midwest will be at Goshen College, April 29 only, a benefit for Greencroft Senior Center.

The uncannily Garrison Keillor-like McLean tells stories that revolve around Dave, owner of the world's smallest record store, The Vinyl Cafi; Morley, his wife; and their children, Sam and Stephanie. McLean is host and writer of the CBC Radio program, Vinyl Cafi, his good-natured humor attracting 700,000 listeners each weekend. The stories will rivet you in your seat and have you rolling in the aisles.

Tickets, $35 each, are available at the Goshen College Welcome Center, 1700 S. Main St., Goshen, IN 46526. To order tickets by credit card, phone 574-535-7566. For more information, call 574-537-4016.

McLean's visit is sponsored by Greencroft Foundation in its annual Greencroft Gala series. Proceeds benefit area seniors through activities at Greencroft Senior Center on the campus of Greencroft Goshen, a continuing care retirement community serving 1,200 residents.

Quote from McLean "I am looking forward to the Gala at Greencroft in April. I have always believed in the importance of family and community. Family and community play an important role in the stories I tell. I admire the support Dave, the main character in The Vinyl Cafi, gets from his family and his friends and neighbours. Dave is always messing up and not quite hitting the mark. But he is able to move through life with grace and good humour because he feels safe and supported.
