Convocation: Guest composer Augusta Read Thomas & the GC orchestra

The Goshen College Orchestra, with the generous support of a Plowshares Project grant, will be hosting Augusta Read Thomas, the Mead Composer-in-Residence with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, on the Goshen College campus on Thursday and Friday, April 14 and 15, 2005. This campus residency will conclude with a Goshen College Orchestra concert featuring the music of Ms. Thomas and the Beethoven Piano Concerto #5 on Friday evening, April 15, 2005, at 8pm in the Colleges Sauder Concert Hall, with a pre-concert lecture by Ms. Thomas for all concert attendees beginning at 7pm in the Concert Hall. Tickets are reasonably priced at $5 and $3 (for students and seniors). Goshen College students are admitted free with their student ID cards.

Ms. Thomass two-day residency at Goshen College will include many meetings and lectures with music students as well as the entire campus community at the Colleges weekly Convocation on Friday morning, April 15, at 10am, in the Colleges Sauder Concert Hall.

Augusta Read Thomas, born in 1964 in Glen Cove, New York, has been a composer-in-residence with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra since 1997. She was an Associate Professor on the composition faculty at the Eastman School of Music from 1993-2001 and is now the Wyatt Professor of Music at Northwestern University. Since 2000, Ms. Thomas has been on the Board of Directors of the American Music Center, and she is on the faculty of the Tanglewood Music Center, as well.
