EMU Chamber Singers

The Chamber Singers, a select 24-student choir at Eastern Mennonite University, Harrisonburg, Va., will sing a variety of works on the theme, "Call and Response." Admission is free.

The choir, directed by Kenneth J. Nafziger, professor of music at EMU, will feature choral music of Felix Mendelssohn, Johannes Brahms (both 19th century German), John Tavener, Neil Saunders (both contemporary English), music from South African and Kenya, music by Ysaye Maria Barnwell and Bobby McFerrin and a new entrance hymn by Harrisonburg composer James Clemens.

The choir will also invite the congregation to sing, including new hymns from the "Sing the Journey" supplement to Hymnal: A Worship Book that will be available in July, 2005, and music from Hymnal: A Worship Book. Dr. Nafziger was music editor of the hymnal, published in 1992.

The groups appearance here is part of a mid-semester break tour to ten locations in four states.
