Necedah National Wildlife Refuge, Necedah, Wisconsin

Midwest Birding Expedition

Merry Lea Environmental Learning Center's annual birding trip includes two birding hot spots: The International Crane Foundation and the Necedah National Wildlife Refuge. Necedah National Wildlife Refuge covers 43,656 acres and includes wetlands, forests, grasslands and savannahs. This refuge is a host site for whooping crane reintroduction and home to over 200 other species of birds. The International Crane Foundation (ICF) works worldwide to preserve cranes of all species as well as the wetland and grassland habitats they require. Our trip includes a guided tour of ICF and a chance to learn about the techniques used to preserve some of the rarest birds in the world. Two avid birders will lead the group: Lisa Zinn, a Merry Lea staff member, and Paul McAfee, Friend of Merry Lea. Cost: $250 includes lodging, transportation and trail time with guides. Meals are on your own.
